Until now, I’ve realized that I’ve shared plenty of tips and tricks regarding digital marketing, social media, web design, and content planning.


But have I ever discussed the overarching importance of a successful marketing strategy?


NOPE!


Which is why, I want to tell you a little bit about why marketing is SO stinkin’ important to your business, and why I’ve completely shifted and created new content marketing packages in order to serve YOU fully.

Before we get started, let’s answer a few common questions you probably have...


When it comes to marketing for your pet business, where do you even get started?


As far as business is concerned, planning is probably the most important aspect. You can’t just expect to launch a new product or service one day and expect your customers to hop on board. You also can’t just post sporadically on social media without a clear purpose (other than to post) and expect the sales to follow. There are a series of events that need to take place first in order to establish trust and build authority.


1. | Organizing your goals, products, services, and turning them into a game plan for growth


Planning your marketing strategy is like laying out a road map toward a successful business endeavor. As the founder of Pet Marketing Unleashed, I work exclusively with pet business owners (AKA “petpreneurs”), and I find that marketing is one of the biggest hurdles that hinder pet businesses from true growth.


2. | Come from a place of abundance / Know your worth in the industry / Be fearless and embrace the competition


Does it ever feel impossible to compete with the businesses that can afford a professional marketing team? These big franchises and companies seem to have endless marketing budgets, which can directly impact your business (hint: think of all the new Wag brand swag that’s going around). Tackling this all on your own can be overwhelming, if not impossible. Especially since you’re trying to work, research, learn, and implement all those strategies all at the same time.

So, now is the time for you to acknowledge and value your worth. This means investing in yourself as well as your pet biz! You know you have a great business, otherwise you probably wouldn’t have started it, right?? So, treat your business like it deserves to be treated. Treat yourself with all the worth you DO deserve. What do you need in order to get an effective marketing strategy?


1. | The right mindset and attitude


Marketing doesn’t have to feel sleazy, forced, or disingenuous. In fact, it can and should be fun. When you look at it from the perspective of connecting with your target market on a personal level, you’ll find that it’s actually enjoyable!


How do you do that? Stop worrying about the analytical numbers, the algorithms, and the “likes.” When you change your focus to your why, things will start to become clearer. Why are you in business in the first place? Who is it that you want to serve, and why do you want to help them?


2. | Grit and motivation


It takes grit to show up every day and work on your business. But if you can remain motivated and consider trying new things, that’ll be the game-changing attitude that can help you scale your business. Sometimes, you just have to start, even if you’re unsure about exploring uncharted territory.


Don’t be afraid to try new things. Make an investment. Begin to outsource, learn, and grow. We’re living in an age where we have SO MANY tools and software to help us grow our businesses and connect with people across the globe.



So, let’s take this back to the original point of this post… here’s the big question I’m answering today:


Why is marketing so important? (Or rather, here are the reasons why you should prioritize marketing.)


1. | It gives you the opportunity to connect


The world is full of 8 billion people. While that may sound overwhelming, you should at it from a place of abundance. That’s huge potential. That means that somebody out there needs your business in their life - they just don’t know it yet! Therefore, you HAVE to get your name out there so  they can know who you are and why they need you.


2. | It allows you to grow and scale


Marketing can help you in endless ways. Are those ads on social media increasing web traffic? Boosting your appointments? Helping you connect with more customers? Giving you a more brand loyal audience? Investing in Facebook advertising alone can boost your pet business in ways you couldn’t attempt with traditional marketing.


3. | It can actually be affordable


There is a myth that states that advertising is much too expensive. It’s definitely not true! In Facebook, you can spend as little as $2.50 per day on Facebook. What’s even better is that you can get really specific with your target market and narrow down the number of people that will see your ads. You can be sure that your content is being seen by the people who are most likely to benefit from your business and are ready to buy!


4. | It grants you the flexibility in terms of when, where, how, and who you market to


Like I already mentioned, you can get really specific with your target market. With geo-tags on Instagram and Facebook demographics, you’re sure to connect directly with you ideal customer. Instead of worrying about who may or may not see your content, you can feel much more confident that the right people are getting introduced and learning about your business.


5. | Most importantly, it allows you to have more peace of mind and more time off!!


When you launched your business, you probably knew what you were signing up for. Sure, it was going to take a ton of work, which meant that you would have to sacrifice some weekends and holidays. While that’s certainly not ideal, it happens to most of us. But that doesn’t mean it needs to be that way without an end in sight.


One of the “whys” behind starting my business was that I want to help you save time, while growing your income! That means more vacations, time away from your business, and transitioning from working in your business to working ON your business!!


I understand how busy you are. I’ve been there - I’ve seen it in action. But, I know it doesn’t have to be that way. You CAN have a successful pet business that doesn’t require crazy hours of work, endless nights at the computer, and non-existent vacations. You see your friends in other industries taking vacations, but yet you’re getting confined to your business and unable to truly enjoy the benefits of being an entrepreneur, or petpreneur rather.


Yes, it costs money to grow your business. But, I also understand that smaller pet businesses have limited budgets. As important as marketing can be, it usually falls last in the priority list when you look at your budget. Which actually doesn’t help you grow and scale your business further. Sort of a catch 22, isn’t it?
